Dennison Berwick's Marine Diesel Basics #1 may remind some of the classic VW repair book How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive by John Muir from over 40 years ago. Dennison's illustrations are a bit more disciplined, but it is indeed the complete illustrated diesel system, with hundreds and hundreds of drawings. It covers maintenance, lay-up, winter protection, tropical storage, and Spring recommissioning.
Berwick has done a bit more traveling than most... he walked across India, paddled a small canoe in the Amazon for five years, sailed Europe, the Great Lakes, North Atlantic, sub-Arctic Labrador, as well as South-East Asia. The book was the outcome of his need for self reliance on diesel motors.
This is the 2nd Edition, and includes more lithium batteries, and an improved index.

Very good book with a lot of really good ideas for beginners
Marine Diesel Basics
I gave this booklet as a gift for my brother-in-law who own a sailboat. It is an excellent reference and read with illustrations that are detailed.
So he completely covers maintenance which is great. I was hoping for an explanation of how a Diesel engine works. So if you’re looking for that then just hit up Wikipedia, but still buy this book.
The book is just what we need. Not to technical, good photos and guides. Great details on the things that need to be understood as well as very good maintenance suggestions.
We would highly recommend it to anyone owning/running a diesel engine.
