Description
First published in 1881, naval architect Dixon Kemp described a distinctive set of “pear-shaped curves” in his book Practical Boat Building for Amateurs. These curves—now widely known as Dixon Kemp curves—have long been used by boat designers to draw stems, rudders, and other tight-radius forms, working in concert with a batten and drafting ducks for longer, sweeping lines.
Though occasionally manufactured over the years, Dixon Kemp curves—like many traditional pencil-and-paper boat-design tools—have been unavailable for decades. This new set revives the original concept. The curves were carefully traced from a set owned and used daily by yacht designer Paul Gartside, then translated into precise CAD files for modern production.
The set includes eight curves, ranging in length from approximately 12 inches to 3 inches, and is laser-cut from 3 mm opaque acrylic for accuracy, durability, and smooth drafting performance.
