Description

"Straight is the line of duty;
Curved is the line of beauty;
Follow the straight line, thou shalt see
The curved line ever follow thee.
—William MacCall (1812-1888), from the title page of this book

Will Stirling painstakingly describes and illustrates, in full color, the many arcane yet vital tasks which can daunt the beginning boatbuilder. Will has been building clinker (lapstrake) dinghies professionally for many years and has made, and learned how to avoid, the mistakes which lie in wait for the unwary. Take advantage of his experience, and some ‘tricks of the trade’, and draw inspiration from the many lush photographs of finished boats seen throughout the book.

Details of Dinghy Building

I am impressed with the book. I'm starting the construction of a 13'6" lapstrake runabout and the additional details that the book provides are very helpful. The photos and detailed explanations are excellent.

Excellent book on boatbuilding

Amazing good detail in text and lots of photos. Beautifully photographed. Well written with a twist of British humor on the edges. I'm calling it a must have for my library. Suggesting same for yours.

Superb book

I am building a boat for the first time. I have purchased Greg Roessel’s book, Bud Macintosh’s, Chapelle’s, etc. This book by Stirling provides just that extra level of detail and advice that you need to get to a good result. Worth every penny.
