Description

We are so pleased to bring this book back into print. Originally published in 1973, we've carried it for ages, but the publisher let it go a few years ago. You likely are aware of Jan Adkins' work... he is the feature explainer/artist for the WoodenBoat magazine series "Getting Started in Boats". Plus, we publish six other books by Jan, including the best selling Moving Heavy Things.

Subtitled "a primer of sailing" it really is an excellent guide to understand how wind and water affect boats. Aside from basic seamanship, Jan also includes drawings of the primary types of sailboats, so you'll see what makes a schooner a schooner, a cutter a cutter, etc. Jan uses Ants and Peanuts to help clarify vectors. How can you miss out on Ants and Peanuts!

Great intro & primer!

I keep a couple of these handy, to hand out to new sailors. The artwork is an attraction of its own, and the info is presented in concise bits for learning a piece at a time.
