The Schooner Maggie B.
- Additional Info
Subtitled A Southern Ocean Circumnavigation, the Nigel Irons designed 63' schooner had a short life, having met her demise in a boatyard fire after just two years. But her two years were packed with ocean sailing.
Reviewed in WoodenBoat #264, Aaron Porter writes:
It's an account of a trip--a series of accomplishments both planned and accidental, entirely executed with eager intention. That's not so common in an age when following a produced and sponsored blog or the homegrown reality programming of social media can leave us chairbound and devoid of firsthand engagement with the world. Blair made MAGGIE B happen, and his account of her is sadly a type of narrative in growing scarcity, one in which an individual develops a notion into a plan, and through a mix of will, correct and flawed tactical decisions, and physical efforts, makes it a reality. It's a pleasure and inspiration to read about such enthusiasm for a boat and effort expended in pursuit of experience.
