Description

Dennison Berwick's Marine Diesel Basics #1 may remind some of the classic VW repair book How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive by John Muir from over 40 years ago. Dennison's illustrations are a bit more disciplined, but it is indeed the complete illustrated diesel system, with hundreds and hundreds of drawings. It covers maintenance, lay-up, winter protection, tropical storage, and Spring recommissioning.

Berwick has done a bit more traveling than most... he walked across India, paddled a small canoe in the Amazon for five years, sailed Europe, the Great Lakes, North Atlantic, sub-Arctic Labrador, as well as South-East Asia. The book was the outcome of his need for self reliance on diesel motors.

This is the 2nd Edition, and includes more lithium batteries, and an improved index.

 by Dennison Berrwick

6"x 9", 212 pp., softcover

The #1 in the title promises three more in the series, a boat buyer's guide; troubleshooting; marine mechanic's know-how.

reference: diesel marine basics

Good resource - accompanies the eLog quite well / people may do maintenance but if it is not referenced and records kept "it never happened".

I gave this booklet as a gift for my brother-in-law who own a sailboat. It is an excellent reference and read with illustrations that are detailed.
