July 8, 2015To: WoodenBoat Devotees
Next week we'll get to spend a couple of days in Castine, Maine for the Bastille Day celebration, featuring the arrival of L'HERMIONE. If you are in the neighborhood, do drop in on July 14 & 15. For more about this French frigate, see WB 244. And for more details on the event, visit the Castine Historical Society site.
You may recall an article in WoodenBoat #206 "In Search of Harry Pidgeon" which referenced his book originally published in the early 1930s. We now have the unabridged Around the World Single-Handed available for your reading pleasure.
Thanks to the many folks who stopped by our WoodenBoat Store booth to say hello at the recent WoodenBoat Show in Mystic, CT. Although the weather forecasts were less than stellar, the rain was kind enough to stay up in the clouds during show hours. One of the treats for our Store crew was to finally meet Christopher Cunningham, the editor of WoodenBoat's new on-line Small Boats Monthly publication. Chris is left-coast based, and is also the author of Building the Greenland Kayak, a book we've carried for several years. As he was going to be at the show, we thought he should be properly attired, so we introduced our new Small Boats Monthly T-shirt that weekend.
And lastly, if you build high-end bicycles in your spare time, it seems building a wooden boat is a pretty good fit. Take a look at this thread on our WoodenBoat Forum of a Navigator going together, and brace yourself for some serious inspiration.
