We've just received a new book we're calling Wooden Boats Sweden. The actual title doesn't have the word Sweden in it, but, for several years we've offered the Michael Ruhlman book Wooden Boats in the good read category, so adding "Sweden" to the title of this new book might reduce confusion. The Sweden book features over a dozen interesting boats in Sweden, shown-off with beautiful photography. It's a lush production, clothbound, Smythe sewn, and all at a very reasonable ($24.99) price. And yes, it would make for a handsome Father's Day (June!) gift for your handsome father.

Speaking of handsome, there will likely be several Pulsifer Hampton boats at our upcoming WoodenBoat Show at the end of June at Mystic Seaport. Why Pulsifer Hamptons? Because Dick Pulsifer will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Tribute Dinner on Saturday, June 27 at Latitude 41.

Preventing and dealing with on-board fires might not be something one would like to think about, but it is important to understand. The latest Getting Started #51, which you can download right now, gives the rundown on how to handle those scary events. Getting Started #51 also comes with WoodenBoat issue #244. And, if you find Getting Started especially helpful, you can order the digitals in Sets 1-20, 21-40.

And lastly, we just received a heads-up from editor Christopher Cunningham about the upcoming June issue of Small Boats Monthly. The new edition will include a Joel White designed Marsh Cat, as well as the John Brooks (of How to Build Glued-Lapstrake Wooden Boats fame) designed Somes Sound 12-1/2. You'll have a bit of a tour of the San Juans, as well as product reviews, and in the reader-built boat section you'll find a beautiful strip-built canoe. All of this and more will be available the first of June. If you've not yet had a look at this monthly magazine, what the heck are you waiting for? Click About Small Boats Monthly and you'll see the link for a free, complete issue. Happy browsing.
