What is coming sooner than you think? Mother's Day. Be it your own mother or mother of your wee beasties, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention a few niceties. Just in from silversmith Hank Lawson, we have several new pure silver earring sets, encased in a handsome wood/glass box. And if she's not the silver-type, we recently added hand-knotted earrings from our friends in Portland, Maine.
What else is new? A handy (perhaps even elegant) crystal magnifier chart weight with compass points etched into the base. Perfect for on board. 3" diameter, and comes in a felt-lined box for easy gift giving.
Although it's not a secret, we would bet some of you didn't know the WoodenBoat School has its own Facebook site. Click WBSchool FB and you'll find more bits about upcoming courses, and what's happening with all things schoolish. And yes, in just one month, courses begin.
This Friday is the beginning of a brand new month, and that means Small Boats Monthly will have a new issue on-line. Christopher Cunningham tells us May will feature (in addition to the several neat boats) two technique articles—both easy do-it-yourself projects. One is a leather-and-wood scoop bailer that, unlike plastic pumps and cut-off bleach bottles, will look like it belongs in your wooden boat. The other is a monkey's fist heaving line—how to make it and how to throw it.
If you're anywhere near North Carolina this Saturday, May 2, the NC Maritime Museum Wooden Boat Show is the place to be. Stop in at the WoodenBoat booth and say hello to Robin, from the WoodenBoat editorial department, plus her groupies. Free admission. It's hard to beat free.
And lastly, Tribute Dinner tickets are now available for Saturday June 27, at The WoodenBoat Show. Dick Pulsifer (of Pulsifer Hampton fame) is being honored with the WoodenBoat Lifetime Achievement Award. Dinner will be at Latitude 41 at the edge of the Mystic Seaport Museum Campus. For more info, click Pulsifer Hampton Tickets.
