We still get excited when a package come to us, especially when we know it's something neat. Yesterday's excitement? The mail truck brought our first shipment of a new DVD from filmmaker Morgan Atkinson. It's titled WONDER: The Lives of Anna & Harlan Hubbard. You may recall Harlan Hubbard's book Shantyboat which we've offered since WoodenBoat 224 featured a Harry Bryan designed houseboat. Folks really connected with that book, and we think this beautifully produced DVD will be appreciated just as much.
We've also received the digital download version of the latest Getting Started in Boats #46, which gives you the rundown on cordage. It's written and illustrated by Jan Adkins, who specializes in explaining things. You might also want to see his book Line: Tying it Up, Tying it Down which is geared for a young audience. As with many of Jan's books, like Craft of Sail, they're actually good for all ages.
And now that it's spring (based on the calendar, not the anticipated foot of snow and 50 mph winds predicted for Down East Maine today...) you can download a reminder, in the form of a handsome 12" x 18" poster for the 2014 WoodenBoat Show.
To whet your appetite for the upcoming season, we thought you might enjoy Andy Kane's posting on our WoodenBoat Forum, titled A Nechanko Adventure. Good read, and good photos. Hopefully you have a high res screen.
And lastly, our WoodenBoat Facebook page has a photo of WoodenBoat magazine, in a head. Not just any head... it's in the USS New Mexico, a nuclear submarine, 500 feet beneath the ice of the Arctic Ocean. The picture was snapped this past Saturday. Who sent it to us? Our former Maine governor and now US Senator, Angus King. For more about his trip, tune in at noon (-5 GMT) today at Maine Calling Or catch the archive at that same link.
