Pretty good timing. The fine folks from Klean Kanteen just delivered our new brushed stainless steel water bottles. And yes, you can put any liquid in them. Wrapped in a jumbo WoodenBoat logo, it has a leakproof top, and holds 27oz (800ml) so you can stay hydrated on board, in the shop, and at your cubicle. (Thanks, James!)
If you're a fan of the Small Boats annual issue (published since 2007), life got even better, as we now have the 2017 digital issue available for download. That means no waiting for mail delivery, and no postage. And if you are outside the US, that just saved you a bundle.
Tis also the season for books, and three newbies just landed here: The Shipwright and the Schooner by Harold Burnham, in Essex, MA, with killer photos by Dan Toybne, plus Maine on Glass a book of glass plate photos of Maine in the early 20th century, and the latest book by Lin Pardey, Talesin's Tales, stories of adventure and seamanship from the Lin and Larry dynamic duo.
People who keep track of such things tell us more WoodenBoat readers are checking out our sister publication Professional BoatBuilder. Good news is we now have the December/January PBB magazine, in digital as well as print. This new issue features the Scarano fleet, including the 65' schooner Adirondack shown on the front cover.
And lastly, tomorrow at high noon US west coast time, 3pm US eastern, the new issue of Small Boats Monthly (our other sister publication... quite the family are we) will be on-line. There's a nifty line-up, including a cold-molded electric powered skiff, a Savo 650 double (kit from Puuvenepiste of Finland), a review of the WeatherMeter that uses bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, and more boaty bits. If you decide to make a gift subscription of it, you'll get extra bragging rights as not only will your giftee read/watch the future issues for the next year, they also get to see all the past issues since SBM went live in September of 2014. That's a crazy good deal. And, the past issues aren't just available to the gift subber... if you get a sub for yourself, you'll get to read past issues, too.
