Description

subtitled The Cruise of the "Islander"

You may have read about Harry Pidgeon in WoodenBoat's Jan/Feb 2009 issue #206. This book is about his trip around the world from 1921-1925 aboard the Islander, a 34-foot yawl he built. Includes 60 photos (print production in this book isn't exactly coffee table quality) but the story is remarkable. It's a look at the world of almost 100 years ago in Tahiti, Somoa and other "exotics". And, this book is the unabridged version of the original published in 1933.

Really enjoyed this story of the 2nd solo circumnavigation. The idea of bringing along 1920’s photography equipment is unreal. Glad he did because some great photos appear in this version.
