Description

Be sure to select PRINT or DIGITAL when you order. Please note... if you select Digital, you then pick if you want Sail or Power designs.

Well-known maritime writer and nautical historian Maynard Bray, and his wife Anne (she used to manage our WoodenBoat Library) have teamed-up to create a book that brings you many designs hidden away in old copies of The Rudder magazine. They have spent years pouring over The Rudder and have culled some very interesting designs for this book.

Designs to Inspire is divided evenly between sail and power, with the sailboat catagories grouped as: Cat Rigs, Sloops & Cutters, Ketches & Yawls, Schooners & Square Rigs. And the power: Launches, Runabouts & Raceboats, Power Cruisers, Motor Yachts, Commercial boats.

This is a book of line drawings faithfully reproduced from the original issues of The Rudder, improved only by Maynard's unique perspective, with designs selected as well as his commentary in caption format.

This is the Dream Book of Boats Plans

This is my favorite book to just flip through and dream about building boats. Fantastic drawings and images. great background info about each of the plans as well.

Interesting Designs

Would have liked to have included some boats with shorter LWL for those of us who don’t build 100 footers. But, good designs that are, as intended, food for thought.

Ooo, there went the afternoon!

A wonderful compilation and study of boats from a century ago, from dinks to small ships, many of which are timeless beauties that would darw a small crowd yet today. Wonderful book, great graphics! And, mostly designs not seen elsewhere. Excellent Covid therapy!
