Very large format, this is the epitome of coffee table book. We just got a chance to pore over an advance copy from publisher David Godine--and he didn't even make us wear the white cotton gloves. The book features the maritime collection of Bill Koch, who has spared no expense (even that is an understatement) to give you a peek into his world of artifacts. There is no "pick-up" art here... everything was photographed just for inclusion in this book.
Koch commissioned a model of every AMERICA'S CUP boat (winner OR loser) and they are all shown. Also of special interest are the nautical interior furnishings as well as figureheads, and collection of paintings.
As the publisher says, "The William I. Koch collection, formed by the experience of an expert yachtsman and the eye of a discriminating collector, is the mirror of a man who approaches maritime art and history with reverence and passion. It is personal, eclectic, and provocative. This sumptuous book will provide weeks of pleasure to any serious art lover, antiques collector, or blue-blooded sailor."
Although the price is $150, as soon as you touch the paper, or study the beautiful printing, and realize just how much of a treasure chest this thing is, you know you made an very good deal. Yes... it is a limited print run. So order now.
