Three to One. That was the old rule of thumb for building lobsterboats... meaning they had a length that was at least three times the beam, which resulted in the slim, elegantly styled boats. Not that the big wide newer lobsterboats aren’t nice, but some might think these are a bit more pleasing to the eye.
This model is based on the older lobsterboats that fish the Boothbay region of Maine. If you read the lobsterboat article in WB #115 you’ll begin to understand why folks find these so fascinating.
Although some prior woodworking skills will help as there are parts to shape and fit, the instructions are incredibly well detailed (62 page booklet) and there are full-sized plans. The construction is not bona-fide boatbuilding methods, but it will result in a good looking boat. All building materials are included, except glue and paint. Not intended for radio control.
