This 80-year-old design may be the oldest active racing sloop class in this country. Designed by B.B. Crowninshield, it was originally known as the Manchester 17 1/2 class,
but so many were built and used in Maine (200+ by the mid-1930s) that the class name was adapted from a summertime watering hole on Islesboro. See WB #37 for more history of the class. The boat’s continuing popularity lies in its ability to outsail many newer designs. The model features plank-on-bulkhead construction in basswood and mahogany, with many pre-cut parts. Because of its simple hull form and rig, the model is surprisingly easy to build. Includes full-sized plans, instructions, fittings, line and sailcloth.
Scale: 1"=1'
LOA: 26"
Height: 31 3/4"
Are you an advanced modeler? While this kit IS adaptable for radio control, it would be a retrofit, requiring you to add lead keel, and special running fittings, which are not included at this time -- nor is the radio control.
